Ever relevant singer/songwriter, Tahirah Memory, is a Portland, Oregon native. Described as having “…a beautiful instrument, a truly warm and gorgeous sound…”, audiences have been inclined to feel as though they come away from a performance post an intimate conversation rather than crowded venue. With fibers in a jazz-rooted, Grammy-winning father, a love for old soul, an intense sense of feel, an open ear, and a respect for current rhythm and blues, Tahirah’s sound is distinctly her personal truth. The 2015 release of debut album, PRIDE, created mega buzz particularly in the UK, as well as elsewhere internationally, released via distribution in Japan, landed placements on numerous soul charts, and toured successfully abroad.
The self-produced, independent vocalist, recently released follow up full length LP, ASHA, in April 2019. Uniquely, every single cut on the new album has received radio airplay. Evolving from the more jazz laden vibe of the debut, Tahirah’s more soulful side is prevalent on ASHA. Editor, Chris Wells, of ECHOES magazine, says her “depth of tone and easy elasticity is glorious to behold.”
Tahirah can be seen touring domestically and internationally as a front woman for her own project, and also recently as a backing vocalist for long time icon, kd Lang.
